It is December already!

How the time flies when you have so many visitors!  I am seriously amazed by how many people have come to visit us in SLC, feel sort of spoiled too, it will be sad when people are sick of coming here but until then I am living it up!  In November we had Lindsay for a few days and luckily I also had some days off work so we were able to explore SLC unrestricted!  Lindsay, Jason and I hiked Grandeur Peak one day…

img_8428We also had a fun time exploring the SLC night scene which included a sad and hilarious attempt at “bar hopping” we ended our evening by performing Journey’s  “Don’t Stop Believing” at a Karaoke bar, it is pretty safe to say we were the only ones with talent, immediately after our performance despite the entire bar’s pleads for us to stay and give an encore, we left the building.  Here is a picture of Lindsay from that night…

img_8436After Lindsay left Steph came into town for Thanksgiving!  We had a good time as well, one of the absolute highlights of her trip was when we managed to come across 7 Newfoundlands at a very posh pet store in Park City, the owner of the dogs (and the store) must have sensed my love for them (I did tell him at least three times “I love them”) and gave us 2 Newfie’s for us to walk around Park City!!!  I was beyond excited, in fact I am still worked up about it, made my month!

I love them!  Walking them that day has only fueled my love and I can’t wait to have one of my own!  One of the Newf’s at the shop was 17 years old which is amazing for a  large HUGE dog and his owner told me that all of his dog’s have lived beyond 12 years of age.   Anyway, I love them :)

Steph and I also made a trip up to Brighton in Big Cottonwood Canyon for a sunny day of skiing.  It was our first day out for the season and our first time skiing in Utah, skiing in the sun = awesome!  I am so use to the miserable wet, cold and windy skiing in Oregon that I had no idea skiing could be so wonderful and enjoyable!

It was great fun, I am excited for more sunny skiing adventures!  While Steph was here she and I worked on a gingerbread house so that we could enter it virtually into the Dukovich-Kreim-Dukovcic gingerbread house contest that our families in Pennsylvania put on every year, this was our submission…

img_8469Oh Yeah we were pretty serious about it, our very own little Whoville!  Steph and I also cooked a turkey and did the whole Thanksgiving feast (mini style since it was just Jas, Steph and myself).  The turkey turned out amazing, although I have to say that while Lindsay was here she and I cooked a full turkey breast in preparation for my first bird and it was by no means an easy task, in fact it was a disaster.  Luckily the second bird turned out and was just wonderful, all credit going to Steph since I had to work the night before Thanksgiving when she did most of the work making the brine and everything else.   This picture is blurry but check that bird out!

Beautiful.  That is what has been going on in my world.  Jas is still hard at work but he is already half way through his first year of residency (woohoo!) the next two years should be much less intense in regards to his crazy schedule, so that is good.  He and I are looking forward to our break in February, we have big plans to explore the parks in Southern Utah, can’t wait!

tour guiding on the side

I am officially done with orientation and I am now practicing on my own, well actually I am never really alone because the group of nurses that I work with are so wonderful, everyone works so well together it is truly a team effort.  I have worked a couple night shifts now, had a few nights that were not so busy and then had a few nights were I can’t remember sitting down once!  When I am not working I am giving guided tours to some of our guests that we have been having!  Erin and Aaron’ came through for a night on their road trip, we didn’t have much time but we were able to take them up to Shoreline trail for a better view of the city…

img_7936I love our mountains, can’t seem to get enough of them and I am so excited for winter when they will be covered with a nice blanket of snow!  Kelsey and Michael also came to stay with us for a few days, unfortunately Jason’s schedule was a bit hectic so he wasn’t able to hang out too much.  I was able to accompany them up to Little Cottonwood for a picnic lunch and take a ride on the tram up to Hidden Peak…

img_7954After a long day in the canyon what could be better than a giant milkshake from Iceberg?

img_7980We each split a milkshake since there is more than enough for one person when you order a Regular sized shake! Jason is not a fan of Iceberg Drive-Inn since they forgot his chicken nugget dinner but since I emailed the company and explained our frustration with the service we received, they sent us a 10 dollar gift certificate to make up for our troubles!  I do like their sign even though their service sucks :)

Thanks for visiting K & M and E & A!  It was nice spending time with you guys.  Now I am off for five days and I have another visitor, Katie is here we are going to go exploring together!  Today we are thinking of hitting up a hot spring in Midway, I am so excited to have time to explore, my work schedule rocks!  I feel bad for Jas because he is back on his crazy schedule of 30 hour shifts every third day, he will be in dire need of our week off in September before the wedding.

What have you been doing?

Well, a lot has been going on since my last update…I had my 25th birthday and was able to go on a hike with Steph and then have lasagna and cupcakes with my sisters at Mom’s.

Steph packed a picnic that we ate atop of Powell Butte…

Jason arrived in Oregon a few days later we took my Mom on a hike for Mother’s day in Forest Park with some sisters…

I went wine tasting with Kathy and Jason’s cousin Sarah…

Jason, Corey, Jos and I went to the cabin in Goldendale, we explored the stream some and found nettles and fiddle heads to cook for dinner we also got to check out M3 at the Goldendale Observatory.  On the way home we stopped at Oneonta Gorge and had a very memorable adventure…

Lots of pretty flowers blooming in the Gorge…

We had beautiful weather with great views of the mountains while we were in Goldendale and on our hike in the Gorge…

Yesterday we went to the Coast and had amazing weather as well, in fact the next few days are suppose to be sunny and beautiful which is good since Kelsey’s wedding is on Saturday.  In other fun and exciting news I have been slowly but surely working on wedding details things seem to be coming together, I went cake tasting with my Mom and Sisters, yum then Jason and I went back and took some samples over to Corey and Alyssa’s to narrow down our flavors, lemon poundcake, carrot cake with pineapple and no nuts and chantilly chocolate are our top three and luckily we get to choose three flavors!  Then on Tuesday Jason and I met up with Alyssa for a little photo session since she is going to document the wedding, we had a great time with her, go check out her website here! That is all for now there are additional pictures here, Jason and I will be heading to Utah on either Sunday or Monday and then it is back to Ohio for the hooding and then we are off to Utah again.  Oh yes and Jason spruced up the look of the blog :)

Eugene

Last weekend I headed down to see Erin in Eugene, I am not a big fan of this city and neither is Erin so luckily she is going to be moving back to the wonderful city of Corvallis in just a few days now!  Despite Eugene’s grossness we still managed to have a great time!  Friday morning we got up early and headed for the Mckenzie River Forest area to do a hike.  We hiked Frissell Trail which is just east of Blue River It was a steep 7.5 mile hike with a 2500ft elevation gain we were almost to the summit when we came across a large amount of snow luckily we were able to climb to a nice sitting place with a perfect view of Three Sisters and Mt. Bachelor.

It was a really great day for a hike, clear and not too chilly, we sat at our viewpoint for a bit enjoying the scenery and enjoying a delicious funfetti cupcake!

I can’t really remember when this tradition of cupcakes on hikes started…but it has become a sort of staple in our hiking/camping menu.  Here is a shot of us on our perch…

Here is a shot of Erin heading down from our perch, the snow was deep (we sunk in to our knees) there was enough of it that it made hiking the last ~1/4 of mile impossible since this trail had many switchbacks it would be a surefire way to get lost or pummel to our deaths.

Spring was really in the air here lots of little things blooming, we saw a bunch of orchids on the first half of the hike, later we identified these to be Calypso Fairy Slipper orchids which are Oregon natives…

On our way back to Eugene we stopped at Cougar Hot Springs for a soak, it is hard to take pictures of the hot springs since there are always naked people in them and it is sort of rude/creepy to be snapping pictures, here is a picture of part of the reservoir the hot springs are hidden up inside the trees a ways.   For dinner that night Erin taught me how to make Spam Musubi and California Rolls with an improvised spicy tuna, I don’t have any pictures of the actual sushi because we mostly ate them as soon as we made them and never actually sat down, it is funny how after three pieces of sushi you are stuffed, here is a picture of Erin making the sushi…

The next day Erin taught me how to Batik, I don’t have any pictures of my shirt yet but it turned out beautifully.  The picture below is actually from the first day that I arrived in Eugene you can see the Rainbow shirt that Erin batiked for me for my birthday!!

I also got to have another mini reunion with my friend from high school, Ashlee T!  I had given Erin her contact info since Ashlee went to Lane CC for DH school and as it turns out they ended up hitting it off, funny how that works out but it makes sense.  We made sushi again and Erin made miso soup,  Here is a picture of us being funny with our fake teeth…

Well that is the quick version of my visit, we had a nice relaxing stay-cation as they call it.  I am back in Portland and it is another beautiful day here, yesterday was nice too went on an 8 mile run with my Dad in North Plains and then Katie and I met up with my Greenhouse friends Mike and Amber at the Last Thursday gallery hop in NE.
